As the two surprise winners of their opening match-up, we expect to see a lot of glory to come from Japan and Senegal in this fixture. There’s a lot to love about both sides, though the main challenge might come from seeing who can take the role of underdog here.
Japan News
Japan showed quality, resilience and control against Colombia. Despite being a man up, they defended well and made sure that they made their possession count to put Jose Pekerman's men to the sword.
In this one, they’ll be reliant upon Yuya Osako and Shinji Kagawa to score and create. Senegal look to attack and Japan should use that to their advantage, using their technical prowess to make chances on the break.

Senegal News
In M’baye Niang, Sadio Mane and Ismaila Sarr, Senegal have a far more terrifying attack than many give them credit for. Expect them to push Japan all the way, stretching the pitch and using their huge amounts of pace to get in behind their opponents.
This will need patience from the likes of Salif Sane and Alfred N’Diaye on the ball, though. The duo will need to keep hold of it and build slowly, bringing Japan out before springing the trap - as they did against Poland.
Verdict
Senegal to win. Japan are a good side, but may find that Senegal just have a touch more dynamism off the ball, meaning more opportunities for counters – something Japan struggle to deal with.
