Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the future of one Chelsea player will be reassessed at the end of the season.
Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano highlighted that defender Marc Cucurella is among the players whose situation will be reviewed based on the club's project at Stamford Bridge and whether he fits into it.
Cucurella, who joined Chelsea for £62m in the summer of 2022, has struggled to make the desired impact since his arrival. His current campaign has been hampered by injuries, resulting in him not featuring for the Blues in 2024 so far.
With Ben Chilwell shouldering most of the workload in Cucurella's position, despite returning from a serious injury himself, Romano suggests that the Spanish defender could be on the move at the end of the season depending on the club's future plans.
Romano commented on Cucurella's situation, stating: "Marc Cucurella - The Chelsea left-back has been linked with a return to La Liga. My understanding is that he is one of the situations to be assessed at the end of the season."
He further added, "Cucurella, Chalobah and more... these players are waiting to see what Chelsea decide to do in terms of project, tactical plans for next season, the manager situation."
The left-back position at Chelsea is expected to undergo significant changes in the summer, with Ian Maatsen likely to depart as well. Maatsen, currently impressing on loan at Borussia Dortmund, has shown promise during pre-season but has not received many opportunities under Mauricio Pochettino, who opted to loan out Lewis Hall to Newcastle United with an obligation to buy.
