Reports in Spain suggest he has three options, and all three are quite appealing.
The first option is Real Sociedad. The Basque giants have been keen to make some marquee hires in recent years. They also look likely to lose some of their more talented signings this year, and could use the money to help fund a deal for the veteran striker. Though they are likely to be the least competitive option, the chance to live in San Sebastian would be hard to reject for many.
The second choice would be Atletico Madrid. Always seen as the ideal Diego Simeone forward, Cavani would love to play for the Argentine. He would fit the hard-nosed, aggressive style of the Atletico team. He would also be a good fit for their high-pressing nature, despite his advancing years. However, one thing to note about this is that his compatriot, Luis Suarez, looks set to leave the club this summer. So, there would be no chance to link-up with his international striker partner.
Cavani also linked with move to Sevilla
The most interesting move would be to Sevilla. The Andalusians have long been one of the powers of the Spanish game, rising to arguably take the spot of the fourth power after Valencia – at least in modern times. Cavani would fit in well with their style of play, and he would also meet their need to sign a veteran striker of some repute this summer.
The strong base of South Americans in the club, too, would make it easy for him to blend and fit in. Seen as one of the best free agents on the market, Sevilla are believed to be keen to use some of their UEFA Champions League earnings to pick him up. Cavani would represent a minor coup, but would become one of many star strikers to wear the white shirt of Sevilla.
Either way, it sounds like Cavani is going to end up playing in La Lia next season. All three clubs can offer something a little different to the others. Another name that has been linked, too, is Villarreal. The Yellow Submarine have been the home of veteran forwards in the past, and Uruguay hero Forlan made his name here also.
For Cavani, then, the options look pretty good after a wasted season at Old Trafford with Manchester United. Still with gas in the tank, Cavani could make a very wise and astute signing for any of these teams.
