Chelsea Eyes Another Ligue 1 Talent Amidst Stamford Bridge Shake-Up

Following the successful acquisition of Malo Gusto, Chelsea is reportedly targeting yet another talent from Ligue 1, with France youth international Bradley Locko on their radar.

Amidst a potential summer transfer spree, Chelsea is considering adding the promising defender from Ligue 1 side Brest to their ranks. Locko has impressed in the French top-flight this season, featuring in 22 matches and contributing two assists, catching the attention of Stamford Bridge decision-makers.

With Chelsea potentially seeking reinforcements in the left-back position, Locko has emerged as a prime candidate, especially with the uncertain future of current player Marc Cucurella, who could be on his way out at the end of the season.

Cucurella, who commanded a hefty £62 million fee in his transfer from Brighton in 2022, has struggled to replicate his initial success since joining Chelsea. Ankle surgery has sidelined him since December, and despite starting eight of the 14 Premier League matches he's been available for, reports suggest that Chelsea may view the 25-year-old as surplus to requirements.

Should Cucurella depart, Locko could step in to provide depth behind vice-captain Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill, who has occasionally filled in on the left side of defense this season.

A potential move for Locko would mirror Chelsea's successful strategy in signing Malo Gusto from Lyon in January 2023. Gusto initially spent the remainder of the 2022-23 season on loan at Lyon before joining Chelsea permanently. The attack-minded right-back has since become a standout performer, particularly in the absence of the injured Reece James.

Looking ahead, Gusto is expected to feature in Sunday's Carabao Cup final, where he expressed admiration for Reece James, hailing him as one of the best players in his position.

As Chelsea gears up for the summer transfer window, the pursuit of Locko suggests a continued focus on bolstering their squad with young talents. Additionally, with striker Nicolas Jackson struggling for goals in his debut Premier League season, Chelsea's recruitment priorities may extend beyond defensive reinforcements.
