Viktor Maigourov elected president of the Russian Biathlon Union

The former Biathlete Viktor Maigourov was unanimously elected head of the RBU on July 11th 2020. He was the sole candidate for the position as Vladimir Dratchev withdrew his candidacy the day before on July 10th.

After having been elected Viktor Maigourov indicated, according to the Russian biathlon news portal WCBiathlon, that it is unlikely that the Russian Federation will be restored to the International Biathlon Union in 2020.

Viktor Maigourov won two Olympic bronze medals competing for Russia as an athlete. He won bronze in Nagano 1998 with the Russian relay team and another bronze in the 20 km in Salt Lake City 2002. In 1994 he competed for Belarus in the Lillehammer games, where his best result was 4th in the relay. He won an individual gold medal in the pursuit in the 1997 World Championship in Brezno-Osrblie and two more golds with the Russian relay teams in Ruhpolding 1996 and Holmenkollen 2000.
