Just as he has done in the past, Moyes has moulded the combative midfielder into an all-action goalscorer who can defend as well as he goes forward. He is the modern midfielder, and one of the best in the Premier League this season. So much so that reports suggest that clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool are keeping a very close eye on the Czech Republic internationals rise to stardom.
Having impressed in Europe with Slavia Prague, Soucek arrived in England amid interest from across the game. However, it is believed that the speed of which he acclimatised to life in England and now stands among the best in the league has impressed many. At a peak age, too, he would provide any suitor with a long-term option who can play in front of the defence, further back, or further forward.
Would West Ham consider selling Soucek?
The main challenge for any buyer, of course, is convincing the opposition to sell the player in the first place. That could prove a daunting challenge, as Hammers manager David Moyes has built the team around the Czech international. Seen as the face of the Moyes era, he has taken control of the midfield to the point where there is talk of Mark Noble calling time on his playing career in the summer.
However, for West Ham, the challenge stems from where they finish. If the Czech can continue to play to such a high standard, and West Ham miss out on European football, he could demand a move in a bid to get himself out there and playing at a higher level. European qualification, then, could be the difference between keeping the player or having to cash in on one of the best finds in recent years.
Once famed as a manager with a real eye for a player, Soucek is a keen reminder that the glint still very much exists in the eyes of the Scot. Were he to lose Soucek at such an early venture in his second act at West Ham, though, it could derail much of the progress that the club has made in the last years.
