English and German teams interested in Rapid Vienna wonderkid Yusuf Demir

For fans of popular simulation Football Manager 2021, the name Yusuf Demir might mean something to you. The young Austrian dubbed the ‘Austrian Messi’, has become one of the most exciting young talents in the European game. Having already played over 30 games for his senior club Rapid Vienna, he looks to be the latest starlet to come through the Austrian top-flight. Eyes from Germany and England, specifically Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United, are believed to be trained on the young gem.

The 17-year-old is believed to be available for around €5m, with current club Rapid Vienna in need of funds to keep building. He has scored six goals in the league so far, and has become a key part of the first-team picture. Given Rapid have a history of giving vaunted youth a challenge, his rise to the top of the first team picture is seen as another vindication of the clubs development philosophy.

Demir, though, is believed to be among the most exciting attacking players in Europe. His balance, poise, and ability to run with the ball at pace makes him a standout talent. His impressive physique for a slight 17-year-old is impressive, too, with the player showing ample ability to hold the opposition off the ball as much as run past them with the ball at feet.

For that reason, it is easy to see why there are so many interested parties in the player. He shows a pace of movement and control of balance that means he can glide through games, often looking a step ahead of the opposition. And given that Erling Haaland was making a similarly huge impression in the same league only a year ago, there is a legitimate interest in a summer move.

Will Yusuf Demir move this summer?

Though some reports in Austria suggest that Rapid will look to keep hold of their crown jewel, it is believed that offers in the region of €5m would be too good to say no to. Given his age and his contract situation, Rapid might view a short-term sale with a high-value percentage of any future fees as the best way to move forward. At only 17 years of age, too, there is no saying that Demir will continue to play to such a level when moving to a higher league.

However, while it might only be one name, the fact he is linked with the premier finishing school in Europe in Borussia Dortmund is a huge vote of confidence. Having made their name in recent years buying young and selling at maturity, Dortmund might see Demir as the kind of affordable punt they could take as a long-term replacement to wings like Jadon Sancho.

Make no mistake, though; there is enough interest in Demir to ensure that he has suitors in large numbers as the summer rolls into focus. Playing at such a high level for a 17-year-old is rare, and it could be that rarity that earns him a stellar move in 2021.

Usually, bookmakers are providing odds for some transfer moves during the summer transfer window, and it will be interesting to see what odds will be given for the youngster to wind up at Borussia Dortmund or Manchester United.
